15 year old Hannah Mcdade wins Cat 3 Heiser Farm Road race, OR
In Oregon, there are different types of rain. Today, I raced in the worst type, horizontal cold rain. The wind was probably the worst during my race, but it was nothing that I wasn’t used to racing in. Regardless, inspired by my Dad’s performance in the earlier masters race where he was off the front in a three man break, eventually placing 2nd (my dad told me to write that ) I set off.
Hesier is a flat, and fast course…my type of race! This circuit is actually a 5 mile loop over some pretty rough farms roads, and we raced for roughly an hour. Everyone had to work extra hard today to try and get through the blustering wind. It was everyone’s worst enemy! No really hard attacks were put in early to break the group up, it was more of who can survive in the torrential rain and gusting wind. Eventually the usual flurry of attacks began and the group whittled down to six women. There was a ‘hot spot’ after the second lap that I placed second in by a tires width. After that sprint, we had two laps to go and settled into a pretty strong but steady rhythm and that allowed me to catch my breathe from the hot spot and get ready for the finish. Eventually it came down to a field sprint with a really strong cross wind, I managed to pick a good gear and come around from 2nd wheel in the last 50 yards. Overall it was a tiring, but incredibly fun race.

I think her name is Faith. Or Hope. Or Joy... but she is none of those.

Me:
Don't say that! She could be all of those things.

Sister:
She follows you around!
-
Me:
See! She's hopeful that you will be her friend. She's faithful to you. And she's just joyful to be around you.

Sister:
She's not my friend!

She doesn't even know my name!
